Assume for a moment that you have just one weekend to spend at Tahoe and you know you have to ski with the crowds somewhere. Assuming no new powder drops, is it Mt Rose or Alpine Meadows that you go to on Saturday? Would you answer change if there was 6 iches of fresh stuff?

P.S. When you are flying across the country for a week of skiing you have to make the most of each day, so this question is not strictly theoretical.

You picked two of the less crowded resorts as it is - either one will be fine. AM has less beginner terrain and Mt. Rose has more acrage. I would suggest Mt. Rose Saturday and AM sunday.

Thanks - I suspected that I should avoid Squaw and Heavenly on weekends. Any others to avoid?
well, heck; if i had a choice i'd always board on weekdays cos it's always less crowded than on weekends. however, i'm one of these unfortunate blokes that's gotta work to pay the bills, n' i've gotta work during the week, you know?
nowadays, i pretty usually board on saturdays but try to go as many saturdays as possible.

Avoid Sierra @ Tahoe. Place is impacted. Northstar can be as well.

you not only asked a very good question, but you also answered it pretty much how i would if i were into responding to my own questions. ;) i guess you get frustrated, like me, when folks just lurk & don't bother to offer a li'l help.
keep praying for snow, bruddah.
Neither AM or rose get too crowded on weekends. Sundays seem to have fewer people, especially in the afternoon as people leave early to get down the hill. Northstar & Sierra @tahoe are overcrowded as they have oversold their "double whammy" ski p***es and have a TON of skiiers\boarders who have season p***es.
