Prices at Boreal are reasonable, and it is close enough to the SF Bay Area for a day trip.

Those who seek black diamond runs may be a little bored here, but it is great for beginners. I regularly bring friends who want to try snowboarding here for the beginner package (includes beginner lift ticket +rentals +lesson) and the instructors have them up and running in no time. This is a self-serving technique, because I need to grow my circle of friends who love snowboarding and who own 4WD vehicles.

Regular lift tickets are reasonably priced at $38 for adults and $10 for kids (though I miss the $28 of a couple years ago) so it won't break the bank. Also, if you are coming from the Bay Area, you can make a day trip of it, so you don't need to spring for lodging. If you leave SF by around 6am, you can be on the slopes from about 10 a.m. until 4 or 5 p.m. (until 9 if you really want to) and still be home in time to put the kiddies to bed (except on Sundays when the return traffic can be awful).

I learned how to ride here so Boreal holds a special place in my <3. Plus, it was close to school and who could pass up $10 lift tickets for college students on Fridays?! I made sure I never had a Friday class:wink:

I appreciate the fact that boreal caters to all different skill levels in their boarding park. I've been boarding for over ten years and I still find some of their backside rails challenging. They don't have the longest trails but there's many tricks to be executed and the staff is friendly. It's one of my favorites!

I haven't been to Boreal since I was about 10, so I don't know much about it.
