i think mt rose is a cool place to go. the snow is great and the lines are short. however, the drive is long since it's in Nevada about 25 miles away from Reno. it's worth the trip to check it out. see yall on the slopes! Rock on!!

Mt rose is a sick mt. The snow is great and the terrain park is challenge able. they have a huge gap. from one table to the other going 15 feet inbetween the tables. and a rail park of good size, Id say they have really got thier act together this year as far as the park goes.

:D I LOVE Mt Rose! I agree with everything else posted, but want to add:
Its a great place to learn since they have an intro package for $48 bucks that includes a lift ticket, rental, and lesson. At the end of the lesson, they give you a bunch of coupons, but the most important coupon of all, is a free lift ticket! (Also, they have a coupon for $29 private lesson and offer an additional group lesson for $10 and other freebies) Best of all, very few people go on the group lessons, so most of the group lessons are really private lessons (1-2 people).

Rose is OK, but that may change this year now that they're opening the chutes, finally! I live only 10 minutes for the parking lot so can't beat that, but not the resort I normally ski at. Its great for cutting out of work early and making some turns.

Mt. Rose is awesome. The snow is good, the lines are short, and the have nice slopes. Not only is it a great place for veteran skiiers/boarders, its great for beginners. The drive is gross, but its definately worth it in the end!

I give Rose 2 Bombs "OK". It's a good low key mountain for beginners and intermediate, but not much expert terrain...until NOW. This year they will open The Chutes area with new lifts to access that area. I am so stoked to explore that new terrain. It is gonna be steep and sick! I cannot wait!

While Mt. Rose doesn't have anywhere near the variety of terrain that some of the bigger resorts have, it is still big enough to keep an intermediate skier entertained for a day. Its location on the NE corner of the Lake Tahoe regions means it's also the resort closest to the cheap accomodations in Reno and it's also the last resort to be affected by bad weather rolling in from the west. Mt. Rose also has some of the best mid-week lift ticket deals, so definitely check it out if you qualify for one of the discounts.

Mt. Rose rocks! $299 for all season, only half hour from Reno, and the chutes! And fresh powder yesterday! The snow was awesome, a few rocks under it but oh well. Oh, and the small bar is cool too.

Mt. Rose is an open place, they have long runs, and some sweet terrain on both front and backside, which is sweet for all the shredders. They also have two awsome terrain parks on the backside, with some sweet jumps, boxes and rails. Rose is the place to go.

Mt. Rose is a well rounded resort, with a lot of variety and usually very good snow. Maybe not at the top level nationwide, but really just a notch from it. I would suggest to improve the bar and restaurant, and maybe add a log cabin at the top which would be for sure well accepted.

...what more could you want. To be honest, I can't review any part of the mountain except for the chutes. That is all I have ever skied at Rose. But the chutes are worth the drive or flight from anywhere. If you like double diamonds, then Rose will not disappoint you. I particularly like Fuse, Detonator, Saddle and El Cap. Of course I think they have some green and blue runs as well, but I'm not sure about that.

they have an excellent deal on season passes if you buy early...
Also, there are a lot of specials in Reno if you are staying there. It's super close to Reno and you can be there in 45 minutes...
Rose actually has the highest base elevation in Tahoe....

The chutes are fantastic, scary, deep, etc... WHEN THEY ARE OPEN. Last year they were open for about 2 days, and even then they were ice slicked with rocks everywhere. As for other terrain:
They have wildcard, which is a short, sweet, hike to glade. Takes a pretty small amount of work for a short, rolling glade. There's also a notch you can hike out to beyond wildcard, its off to the left as you go further down the cattrack. That's alot of fun, but again, short.
Other than that, its pretty generic, straight runs that turn to boilerplate fairly quick, the wind can pick up there making the traverses really painful and slow, Kit Carson Bowel is a huge wide open bowl that unfortunately gets wasted because its the most crowded part of the mountain, and their season pass this year was no great shakes, it was - while on sale - the same price as resorts 4x the size.
Its great for a half day, the bartender girls tend to be hot, but it gets routine fast. AND on holidays when it snows, they tend to run out of parking after passholders have sat on 431 for 3 hours waiting just to be told the lots are full.

Most of my passes in the last 10 years have been with Rose. A couple years I tried Alpine and Northstar. Alpine was awsome, but the price was steep and the drive was futher (living in reno). Northstar was ok, but it got boring. Rose has epic terrain, some of the steepest slopes i've ever been on. the price is right. parking is easy, lines are short, views are fantasic, parks are well diversified.
I don't ever want to see hotels and condos up there, i like it the way it is, if they keep that cheap season pass, then I'll stay loyal. Focus on the mountain, adding lifts, parks, and runs. Some resorts up here are losing focus on the riders and trying to attract the non-riders to buy art and wine or whatever, which seems dumb to me.

"The chutes are fantastic, scary, deep, etc... WHEN THEY ARE OPEN." This season, I think you are going to see the chutes OPEN A LOT.
I'm a big fan of Rose for many reasons -- easy to get to from North Shore or Reno, great mountain, nice view, friendly employees, great bar and outside deck. Two 'fer Tuesdays and Ladies Day Thursdays ($19.00) are great deals. I'm not an extreme skier, but I do like to challenge myself and get a good day in. The terrain is varied enough for my ability. I'm rarely disssapointed at Rose. True, sometimes it does get windy. For me, customer service and value mean a lot and Rose always delivers in that department.
