We've been going to Diamond Peak every year for the past 5 years or so. The main reason is because we own a timeshare at the Hyatt High Sierra. Diamond Peak is a very low-key ski resort. It is not big by any stretch of the imagination nor are the runs very challenging. However, it is very family oriented and it is great if you have younger kids or beginner to intermediate skiers. The easiest beginner slope (School Yard) is great for teaching the little guys. I took my 4 year old with me and basically walked beside him while he skiied down. Their children's program isn't bad, but they don't start until 10:15am and their playroom is TINY. So we end up having to stay with the kids until 10am, which eats into your ski time. Overall, we like Diamond Peak because it is almost never crowded. We went over a holiday weekend and didn't encounter much waiting in line while our friends at Northstar were frustrated by the crowd. My husband is bored with the runs though so eventually, we will have to move on to more advanced terrain.

Diamond peak is ok for newbies.. I learned to snowboard there and they give very good lessons.. I recommend them if you are interested in getting into snowboarding.

Diamond Peak is a solid resort for what you pay for. With Snowbomb card or ticket coupons it is one of the best deals for your money. $44 is a bit steep (especially when Alpine Meadows is only $39/49 holiday) but for 32 or 22 it has to be one of the better deals on the North Shore. Some nice long runs, quick chairs and NEVER crowded. Crystal Ridge cool especially with all of the challenging terrain running off of it. Good Tree action in Solidude Canyon. Not much walking for Boarders but it can be crowded with beginners near the chairs. But for $32 makes for a much better day than boreal.

Went to Diamond Peak in 06 for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Imagined a small resort with no interesting runs. Found it to be more than satisfying for an intermediate to advanced skier looking to escape the crowds. Great prices too! Easy to denigrate this resort if you're into the superficiality of some other Tahoe resorts or if you're only into extreme skiing. But if you're looking for some laidback fun, and great place to practice carving your turns and mixing in some reasonably difficult runs, lots of skiable terrain for intermediates, and short lines, then this is the place!

Diamond peak may be small, but I the lines are usually small, and you can get a number of good runs in during the day. When the other resorts are really crowded, it is nice to get to a resort where you don't have to wait 10 minutes to get on the chair lift. It being small means that you will probably do most of the runs before noon, and in bad weather years, some of the better places are closed. They have pretty good tree skiing. I am a bit biased, as I have a family member that works there, but I went there before said family member started working there.
